Ian McKellan was nominated for the first LOTR, I believe, but I don't think any other actors were nominated for the others. There was some talk of Viggo M. being nominated but it didn't pan out -- so, yeah, I think LOTR was the "star" not the actors (and, truth to tell, that's really the way it ought to be).

GBFans has not had an influx of new members since 300 came out -- it's only been a little over a week so it's early on that account but I think the audience for 300 has been either decidedly male OR has been made up of women who don't care to get "involved" specifically with an actor. Don't know what's happening at other Gerry sites.

My thinking is that men, on the whole, don't frequent fansites the way females do (yeah, that might be sexist but I think I'm probably right on that one). I think they might go to a site that was totally about 300 (or something specific -- like weapons, history, CGI, etc) -- but I think any forum devoted to a specific actor (especially with the rabid fans Gerry has) would scare them off in a heartbeat.
