good post Marjorie.. you summarized it perfectly.

I see Gerry as being a bit like my brother was before he got married. He had no hobby, no centered point in his life. His hobby was going out, collecting women, drinking and partying in his boat on the lake. He was a pilot then and let me tell you, the uniform draws women like flies... and he made use of it! Add a darling little Yorkie that he took with him everywhere he could... and I lost count of the female names.. I could never remember them all.
It caught up with him, he stopped drinking as it was controlling his life..he moved from the lake, quit his job and finally found the right woman and now he does worthwhile things. Goes to church, works with kids, etc..he was disinclined to do that before.
Wait... he did go to church for a period after he got off the bevy...where he once protrayed Jesus in an easter pageant, bare chest, loin cloth dragging the cross and all. After that the single women in the church made sure they spoke to him every sunday...LOL

Gerry is probably not drinking or drugging, he's just out doing what he has always done, good or bad. I think the Glasgow single lad in him has never left him nor will it ever.

Fruity (or anyone from outside America) will have to back me up in this, but Glasgow (even European for that matter) lifestyle is very different from middle America, a totally different mind set. I know, I was married to a German.. their lifestyle is very different from Americans. People can be religious, but they still drink, unlike the majority of religious Americans. The life of a single man is similar to what Gerry does now, he goes out prowling, he shows women he likes them when he does and he has no hesitation when it comes to intimate interaction with women. European men are quite different from American men. They do not pussy foot about when they are attracted to a woman.

Ok.. so yes, I think that Gerry is stuck in a kind of time warp.. but as of yet, he sees no reason to change or has had anything happen to him to make him change. He just keeps on, keeping on. I don't think it affects his career, after all, he's not breaking the law, he's not raping women or out publicly drunk or drugging.. he's just out to a club.
In fact those trips to clubs may attract younger less settled women as fans believe it or not.

I was a club person before marriage. I drank as well, I still do, but less, responsibilities of functioning at work just do not allow over drinking and I do not enjoy it as I did in the past. My husband was not my first lover, so I know the club scene well. I suspect I am coming from a different lifestyle than some of you more settled ladies.

I agree with Fruity, going out to clubs do not make you immature. It's simply a different lifestyle. It's not the life of small town middle america, but it is the style of large city america.

However, drinking to excess to the point of affecting your life does, whether it's in a club or at home. Just as well as a married woman/man going constantly to a club instead of taking on responsibilities at home..that is immature and irresponsible.

We all come from different types of life, so we will have different opinions on what is immature or acceptable according to our own experiences and upbringing...right?

I'm going to be the devils advocate here. I love doing that.. LOL

What would you want or expect Gerry to do, a single man, unattached and free as a bird with money and time to burn? I'm not saying he isn't a bit immature.. well more than a bit..LOL but still..do you want him to go to the library, to church? Join a cooking class or a knitting club? He has no hobbies that I know of other than reading a bit, working out.. ah.. maybe his hobby is women. Oh and therapies...

For all we know, he does do worthwhile things, he does contribute to worthy causes.. probably more than we know.. but even so, that cannot take up his entire time... besides he has enough fans contrubuting to charities on his behalf LOL

Those ladies in the vid looked to me to be ladies of the street or more kindly said, wanna be groupies and I think Ger recognized it as well, thus the altercation when one was hesitant to be in a pic with him. Perhaps he found it totally ridiculous..I would if she was who I think she was. More likely it was his ego and temper that flared when she rebuffed him.

Oh yes...The man has an ego.. no doubt about it. He loves a beautiful woman when he sees one..whether she's a street lass, a star or a fan.

Gerry is Gerry, and he is an actor, his life will never be a middle American life, no way, no how..even if he quit acting, it would not be.. that is just not his style.
After all, he tried it with lawyering.. it didn't take and I would bet it wouldn't take even now without the bevy.

Besides, if he changed, he would be boring and then we wouldn't have anything to talk about!!

I have a prediction to make... If there was a proverbial ball and chain about to be tied around his ankle ( BC) I suspect it has been reduced to nothing more than a casual friendship and we will perhaps see more out and abouts at places like Hyde..

hmmm?
