The Wright Brother Museum of Flight is in this immediate area and they use the dunes along the sound, where the Wright brothers originally launched, for hang-gliding. 

The surf was really rough while we were there; probably because of the impending storm systems moving off of Bermuda.  The sand was also very coarse with sharp pieces of shell and these prickly pineapple-y things that stuck to everything.  You definitely had to pay attention to where you put your feet.  Swarms of biting black flies invaded every morning and evening as well.  I spent the absolute bare minimum on the actual beach.
