We used to dock our old Grady at a marina. But it got too expensive. They wanted $900 for just 4 months and there was no security. (and this was 7 yrs ago, I've heard it over $1200 now). Our campground lets you leave your trailered boat for just $100 for the season, plus they keep an eye on it during the week. You need a gate card to get into the campground also. So Dave sold the Grady and bought the smaller Cape Craft and sticks to the back bays when fishing. The local dock launch only costs $25 for the season, plus when he needs to fill the gas tanks, he just pulls into a gas station, instead of paying for dock gas (up to $1 more per gallon)
And yeah, my husband is amazing when he's handling the trailer. Because he's a regular at the launch, the dock master will wave him ahead of other boaters because "Watch this guy, he knows what to do". Dave, my brother and Bob (Dave's BF) can get the boat out of the water and on the road in under 6 mins. The dock master has timed them.
If I tried, it would be a fiasco. I'd probably sink the truck.
