The beetles never ever sounded Scottish or Irish they sound scouse...complete different..but i suppose it is probably harder for Americans to identify the accent as it would be harder for me to identify American accents..i mean i could tell you if someone is from the North or south i would think and i could recognise certain accents like Texas, Boston, NY but i would probably struggle a bit!

One this is i have never had problems understanding people when they speak but i think it is because i seem to manage to tune into accents quite quickly but so many people seem to have problems understanding different accents. We had a Canadian relative over just a week or so ago (she was a distant relative) and she seemed to have a real problem understanding people..yet her friend understood what everyone said perfectly!

There are just so many regional accents here as there are in the US that there is no generic accent..Some accents are more recognisable than others eg..geordie, scouse, brummie, aberdonian, orkadian.
