This poem is in the poetry section but thought I'd put it here since I know not everyone likes or reads poetry. I wrote this in 2002 when our Casey was growing old:

Old Dog (for Casey)

Old dog,
You still have life yet
Though the years have left
Their grey mark.
Your going
Will leave a hole
As big as the moon
And will eclipse the sun
For days on end.
But, for now, you are with me still.
The worth of your stay
Outweighs the agony of departure
And, at this moment, agony is
A distant shadow
And you sit beside me
Knowing more of what to say
In silence
Than any tongue
Ever spoke.
