That's so sad, Lynn - what a waste of a life.
Something similar happened around here - my brother came and picked me up at the airport (Detroit Metro) and we drove back to Windsor across the Bridge. The customs guy wanted to know where we were headed, and when my brother said Amherstburg (which is a small town outside of Windsor), the guy asked which way Will was planning on driving. I know that Will thought it a weird question, but said 'Sandwich St' and the customs guy suggested he might want to take a different route. 'They just pulled a body from the river at Sandwich and Mill. You might want to take another route home.'
Turns out it was the body of a school principal who'd been missing for about 3 days - Luis was only 36, quite young to be the principal of an elementary school (Catholic School Board), and there had been a lot of people holding vigils on his behalf. Guess they found his car parked there, and no signs of violence - thinking he committed suicide (but holding off on confirming anything until after the autopsy I guess).
I didn't know him, but it was just strange that the customs guard thought of asking my brother what way he was planning on driving and told him. It was very thoughtful of him.
