Well, two of the three arteries in his heart are clean as a whistle. The third is completely blocked. However, his heart has already started to create it's own bypass, growing new arteries to go around the blockage. His doctors have decided that for now, they'd rather try treating him with diet and beta blockers then risk any surgery. There is a 40% chance of actually causing more problems trying to break up a blockage and bypass surgery is painful and takes him out of commission for a long time. Right now they don't want to mess up his "quality of life". So he has to quit smoking and get serious about eating healthier.
