Went to Atlanta yesterday to see POTO at the Fox (where I've seen it all the previous times). Our seats were okay but that's what happens when you buy tickets late. Anyway, found five together (me, Mark, Carrie, Wesley and Chelsea, Wesley's girlfriend -- who we met for the first time). The music was stunning, as usual, and the performances were great but, even from the beginning, I kept thinking that it was different in some ways. Well, I had not been paying attention and didn't realize that the production had been re-tooled. Frankly, I liked it better the "old" way but I guess they thought they needed a fresh approach. The story and all are still the same but some of the sets are quite different -- apparently, they wanted to show more of a contrast between the Phantom's world (below) compared to the theater world (above). I guess they did that. The one set that I really missed was Masquerade. They used to do it with stairs and, now, everybody was just on the stage and it wasn't nearly as dramatic -- or colorful. Not disappointed -- things change and that's fine -- but just wasn't expecting it. And, of course, I would go again!
