Last night, my daughters competed in a horseback riding competition held by the county fair and rodeo. I sent my little one home with my hubby after her
events and stayed to work in the arena while my eldest daughter competed. They have an extraordinarily large number of entrants so we were there very late to
let everyone registered compete.....2:45 am to be exact. In the pole-bending competition, one of the girls rode a great pattern in the arena and was on the
run to the alleyway. Just as she passed me at the arena entrance gate, her horse tripped and went down on his head, rolling over somersault style. She was
thrown against the pole fence on the sides and then he rolled over her. The good thing is both horse and rider are going to be okay. The bad thing is they
will both have a long recovery. Cori, from all appearances, probably has a broken left leg, two breaks in her left arm above and below the elbow, and a
dislocated shoulder or broken collar bone. Her horse wasn't limping but has a busted lip and bloodied gums from the impact and will require chiropractic
care now for the back and neck strains. (Yes, they do have horse chiropractors and they make a world of difference for hurting horses!) This happened about a
foot and a half from me as I had to move fast to avoid being part of the tangle.
Once she knew her horse was okay, she calmed down and was already talking about how it would keep her from completing the competition series and winning her award. Kids are so resilient. If that had been me, I'd probably have broken things I don't even have.
Please keep her in prayers for healing and for a bit of amnesia so that she won't learn to fear horses. It was a freak accident that was no fault.
