Okay, so I've got Facebook figured out pretty well...but there is something that really annoys me and I'd like to know if anybody can tell me if there's a way to prevent this.
I have found that when I post a photo or a link at DLSS (The David Lee Smith Society), the only people who will get this in their personal newsfeeds are people who are members of DLSS and with whom I'm also friends (on my personal account). Members of DLSS who are NOT on my friends' list (or yours, etc.) do not get the updates in their feeds.
However, when someone else posts a photo on DLSS and I comment on it, then this (the photo and all comments) goes out to all my friends' "Top News" feeds -- even when they have nothing to do with DLSS (I have checked this through Mark's FB account -- he is my "friend" but is not a member of DLSS).
Well, long story short, I DO NOT like this -- I don't care what the other members of DLSS see -- or what people see who go directly to the group -- but I don't like this being shown on my non-DLS-loving friends' feeds (it seems to be shown only in "Top News" not "Recent News").
Anyway, is there any way around this?
One of the things that FB privacy is supposed to offer is a way to control who sees your posts (on every post you make -- you have a default setting but you can control each post individually) but, apparently, this is not an option if you are posting on a group photo (or maybe any photo?) -- I don't see the "lock" icon at all as I do on posts I make outside of the group.
The only thing I can figure that would stop this would be to make DLSS a "closed" group -- and I really don't want to do that -- I'd much rather it remain "open" so that, even if people don't want to join, they can still read posts and look at the photos, etc.
I did find one thing where this question was asked and the answer (not an official FB answer) was to go to "Groups app settings on Additional Permissions" and uncheck "publish content to my wall") -- but, number one, I could not find this and, number two, I don't think it's the exact same thing I'm asking.
I think there is a way to prevent any comments you make on others' posts not viewable but this isn't something I want for everything -- only for the comments on DLSS.
Anyway, if anybody knows how to prevent comments on group photos from going out to everyone on our friends' list, then please let me know.
If this hasn't made sense, please ask me and I'll try to do better...
Lynn
