The restrictions regarding US citizens visiting Cuba have eased considerably lately; Ida provided a great site for info if you're interested. I'm not a beach person period so going to any of the Caribbean islands is less than attractive to me (although I've been to the vast majority of them), but considering the major resorts and tourist areas are usually owned by large corporations not indigenous to the islands themselves, very little money goes to the natives. I've even seen tips taken from the islanders working for them. Not to mention the danger of leaving secured areas. If I want to visit a 3rd world country, I'd rather go to Africa or Asia, and if I want to visit an island, I'll perfectly content with Scotland, thank you very much!
